Indian companies coping

This article is based on a survey on business confidence among
Indian firms carried out by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) -
India Business Forum (IBF). Mr Narendran, President & CEO,
spoke on the main challenge in this economic climate, and his
expectation in the next six months. Mr Girija Pande, chairman of
CII-IBF was also quoted saying that the "India Inc has grown
tremendously.. and that Singapore is for India what Hong Kong is for
China".

programme and also highlighted
that at NatSteel, we don't only
donate money to charitable
organisations but also actively
participate in charity work. As

activities, Chua Hock Cheng,
Assistant Vice President for
Production (CAB & Couplers) also
spoke about his fulfilling
experience doing volunteer work.

Late April saw Liu Fang Joo,
Senior Vice President for Group Human Resource and Corporate
Communications, giving a presentation on NatSteel's work-life
programmes at the 'Achieving Balance Between Career & Family'
seminar by NTUC. As a spin-off to this, Human Resources covered an
excerpt of her presentation in an online story. It zooms in
particularly on our workplace health programmes as a key factor to
our stable attrition rate.

designed with workers' comfort in mind

Centrefold advertorial on the launch of Avery Lodge, a new workers'
dormitory at Jalan Papan, featured one of NatSteel's staff, Mr Nehar
from the Precage department. When asked about his experience living
in the Kian Teck dormitory (which is under the same management as
Avery Lodge), he said that he liked living in his current dormitory
with its strict rules and clean environment.

NatSteel Scholarship has 'welded' his passion for the better.

Keeping mature workers healthy
HRM Singapore, Issue 9.2In
this three-page advertorial commissioned by Health Promotion Board (HPB),
NatSteel, was featured as an exemplary organisation that offered
good staff welfare through employee health screenings and
facilitation of management of diseases among mature workers.
NatSteel Holdings, dubbed a "forward-thinking employer", conducts
annual health screening for all staff aged 40 & above, and biannual
health screenings for the rest. A whole suite of health checks were
listed, plus the fact that a "thorough spadework" was conducted
before embarking on these recommended programmes. These included
health & lifestyle survey from which results were used to draw up
workplace health programmes and activities to "better cater for
mature workers".

highlighted the "win-win situation for both employer and employee"
and underlined the effectiveness of the programme with statistics
that show the drop in absenteeism rate and a drop in incidence of
chronic illnesses amongst mature staff.

Despite the economic downturn, students who are looking for
scholarships to fund their tertiary education will still have lots
of choices for them to choose from as the government and Singapore
companies have introduced new and flexible scholarship programmes.
NatSteel was highlighted
in the article as our stance on ‘no quota, remain open to talent’
remains unchanged for students getting their ‘A’ level, Polytechnic
Diploma or International Baccalaureate results. NatSteel also
welcomes current undergraduates with good first-year or second-year
University results to take up our scholarship.
