The
OHU is a key component of our healthcare initiative. Established in
1984, the OHU deals with trauma and non-trauma emergencies, and offers
a wide range of medical services, facilities and programmes to promote
the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our staff. Primary
health care
The OHU provides doctor’s consultation, follow-up treatment,
vaccination and immunisation against infectious diseases, and health
education. Health
surveillance, health screening and assessment
The clinic arranges periodic medical checkups to detect the onset
of illnesses or chronic
conditions.
It also does medical assessments of new employees, workers renewing
their work permits and those with special health problems.
Health education and promotion
Talks on quitting smoking, nutrition advice, exercise and recreation,
as well as mental health and stress management are organised to
encourage personal awareness and responsibility. The OHU also works
with the canteen operator to promote a nutritious diet. Occupational
health
We offer statutory medical examinations for workers exposed to hazards
such as noise and silica, regular audiometric tests, and organise
educational programmes on noise and the importance of wearing hearing
protectors. First aid and emergency treatment
The OHU helps with the selection, supervision and training of first
aid specialists, maintains a list of first aid box locations, ensures
that the boxes are kept well stocked, helps formulate emergency response
procedures and evacuation routes, provides crisis care management
and maintains the emergency ambulance services. Counselling and
rehabilitation
Clinic nurses provide counselling support for employees. They also
help to rehabilitate and resettle the sick and injured.
